Modern man uses many things invented for optimal and simple solution to everyday tasks.
Unfortunately, some of the handy little things are not as harmless as they seem. They either have initially or acquire with time properties that are hazardous to health.
Let's talk about household items that are important to remove and replace with new ones in time.
Old food containers
Plastic ware is present in any home. It is easy to clean, weighs little, does not beat, usually has a convenient and securely cover. We use containers for heating food and its storage in the refrigerator, as packaging for food, which we take on the road and for work, and also we use bottles and other containers from drinks, sauces and other products of industrial production in everyday life. However, many of us make mistakes that can lead to poor health.
First, not everyone, buying plastic dishes, pay attention to its labeling. Meanwhile, each type of plastic has a narrow scope. For example, you can freeze food only in containers labeled with snowflakes, and reheat in containers with two Latin letters P (PP). The service life of dishes subjected to thermal effects should not exceed two to three months, because over time it begins to release toxic substances.
Secondly, the majority of containers from under purchased products are unsuitable for reuse. Despite the apparent smoothness of the walls, they are almost impossible to clean up from residues of primary contents. Traces of mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet syrups and water, sour cream, etc. - an excellent environment for the life of pathogenic microorganisms, so you should not re-place food in such dishes.
Thirdly, other food liquids should not be poured into drinking water bottles. The plastic from which they are made does not withstand contact with acids contained in juices, compotes, fruit drinks, etc. It collapses, releasing toxic substances.
You need to periodically check your kitchen for outdated or unusable plastic utensils and throw it away without the slightest regret.
Only at first glance, aerosol air fresheners seem to be a useful invention. Their only plus is the convenience of use, but in fact they are rather harmful. Despite the manufacturers' assurances of safety, each bottle contains many chemicals that negatively affect the respiratory organs, the immune system, and even the human reproductive function.
The following fact is also important: an unpleasant smell in a living room, as a rule, indicates a violation of hygiene rules. It makes sense to find and eliminate the source of "amber" - instead of "freshening up" the air with the help of household chemicals. In addition, lovers of pleasant aromas may well make an inexpensive and harmless replacement of aerosol flavors using natural essential oils, herbs, pine needles, citrus peel and other components of natural origin.
It is mainly about daily used sports and home shoes. Favorite sneakers or slippers quickly lose properties: trampled, bent, no longer properly absorb weight. Wearing trampled, out of shape shoes has a detrimental effect on the condition of the joints of the legs.
Shoes made of synthetic materials, is fraught with another danger. Pathogenic microflora settles in its insoles and soles, which, by the way, causes an unpleasant smell. Continuing to wear such shoes, a person risks getting a fungus. The maximum lifespan of sports and home shoes is six months.
"Stale" Personal Care Products
Everyone knows that a toothbrush, a comb, and a scourer are objects of individual use. However, not everyone replaces personal hygiene products, not waiting for them to lose their qualities.
Toothbrush needs to be changed at least once every three months. During this time, her bristles wear out and almost cease to clean her teeth from plaque and food debris. In addition, the working surface of the brush sooner or later becomes home to bacteria. That is why dentists are advised to acquire a new brush not only on a regular basis, but also out of schedule - after suffering infectious diseases.
Once every six months, you need to change a washcloth. It is constantly in a humid environment and is rapidly colonized by microflora. After each use, wash the washcloth with hot water and dry thoroughly.
The service life of a hair brush or a plastic comb (if they are regularly washed) does not exceed 12 months. Wooden combs retain half the shelf life: their surface is more difficult to keep clean.
All types of so-called antibacterial soap contain triclosan. This substance not only protects a person from pathogenic microorganisms, but contributes to the creation of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and fungi. Some researchers believe that triclosan has a negative effect on the human endocrine system, and its regular entry into the body leads to hormonal disruptions.
Pepper, cloves, cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, coriander and other spicy additives have a long shelf life. However, this does not mean that you can eat spices, bought more than two years ago. It will not cause noticeable harm to health, but the expected effect from such spices will not be either. From long storage they lose not only useful properties, but also aroma. It may seem that the problem is solved by the use of tight-fitting containers, but this is not true. Spices should be purchased in small packaging and time to get rid of stale.
Old sponge for dishes
In this case, the word "old" is not entirely correct, it would be more correct to call them used. The fact is that after two days of use, the dish sponge is completely colonized by microorganisms, many of which are unsafe for human health. It is as impossible to drive them out of a porous “house” as it is to prevent them from relocating to just washed dishes. There is only one way out: to replace the sponges with new ones more often or to refuse from using them altogether, giving preference to rags that can be boiled.
Plastic Kitchen Boards
Our grandmothers used wooden chopping boards. With the advent of plastic kitchen appliances, they were abandoned, declaring unhygienic. Over time, it turned out that everything is not so simple: boards made of high-quality wood contain resins that prevent the growth of microbes, and boards made of plastic quickly become covered with scratches that cannot be completely washed out.
The most hygienic are glass boards - they are difficult to scratch and easy to clean. Unfortunately, these kitchen utensils have some drawbacks: they fight, slide on the surface of the table and are quite heavy. Those who continue to use plastic boards may be advised to purchase separate boards for meat, fish, bread, vegetables and ready-made products and not to keep them scratched.
A cultural person is obliged to take his health responsibly. This concept includes not only the organization of proper nutrition and reasonable physical exertion, preventive visits to doctors and refusal of self-treatment, but also concern for the safety of residential premises. That is why you should pay attention to the state of everyday things that can be a source of danger.
